Ai Weiwei collaborates with W Magazine for the art edition to create an editorial of “the conflicts between individuals and authorities—be they economic, cultural, political, or religious. I am using my personal experience to address a condition.”.
Ai Weiwei was detained for 81 days in Beijing jail and was released in June. Weiwei is still not allowed to speak publicly, traveling outside the city/or his apartment, or to give interviews. However, he was able to collaborate through Skype to create these images with photographer Max Vodkul.
